Pupils collect donations at school reading river to help support local charity
Pupils at West Coats Primary in Cambuslang handed LEAP a cheque for £100 on 18 June 2024 following a reading event in the school.
The event involved pupils occupying every step in the old building and reading a book of their choice. Money raised by the pupils was then split with LEAP being one of the beneficiaries.
West Coats teacher, Leanne McKendry, helped organise the event - a Reading River - and was part of the group who handed over the funds. Leanne said: “The pupils were allowed to read whatever book they wanted and raised a lot of money for local charities. I’m glad some money went to LEAP as I also volunteer with LEAP as a befriender.”
Iain English, one of LEAP’s volunteer development officers, collected the cheque and said: “We’re really grateful to the children for doing this and thinking about LEAP. I chatted to them and found out they read about things from World War II to Greek mythology, which was interesting to hear. The school should be really proud of them.
“The money will help us continue to enhance the lives of older people in our community.”
